Katie and I took a long hike in the Angeles National Forest up to Mt. Islip. The trailhead for this hike is about 45 miles up the Angeles Crest highway, and unfortunately the road was closed about 43 miles up. Luckily, there were some knowledgable hikers where we parked, and they told us that we could reach the peak from a nearby trailhead, which we did. We added a couple of miles to the hike as described in the book, but it was a very scenic extra bit.
