On May 18, 2008, Marie and Paul were married in Capitola by the Sea, near Santa Cruz, CA. The brief ceremony was held right on the beach, with the guests simply gathered around in the sand facing the ocean. There was a heavy marine layer (i.e. fog) in the morning, resulting in some very interesting shots and backgrounds...but also a lot of gray. Converting the photos to black and white helps the contrast issue greatly, so you'll notice that I've done that for many of these photos.
I've done something a little different than my usual for a wedding album. Typically, I sort the photos out into categories (getting ready, ceremony, reception, cutting cake, etc), but this time I had several reasons for doing it differently. First, there were tons of photos taken of this ceremony. In addition to the professional photographer, Ivan Miller shot several hundred photos, and every other guest seemed to have a camera. For every little detail of the ceremony and reception, please check out Ivan's album.
These photos are the top 90 of my favorites (some duplicated and/or heavily edited), of the about 460 images I took with my SLR. I think that some of these are very moving, and together they do a decent job of capturing the spirit of the day.
